Who could benefit from PT at CTPO?
Any child or adolescent having pain with or without a specific injury or recovering from an orthopedic injury could benefit from a course of PT at CTPO. Our physical therapists specialize in the treatment of children from the ages of 0-18 years of age and not only have a vast knowledge of common diagnoses seen in this particular population, but also understand the demands that various sports and activities place on the growing body.
How long will a session last and what will happen during a session?
All of our treatment sessions at CTPO are individual sessions with one PT and one patient. The first visit is an evaluation that will take 45 minutes. This will be an in-depth assessment and will allow us to diagnose the injury, identify the source of the problem, develop a treatment plan, and begin treatment. Starting on the first day, patients will be given a couple of exercises that they will do on a daily basis at home. This ensures that the patient will make progress toward meeting their goals without having to be seen multiple times each week.
The follow up visits are approximately 30 minutes. These usually occur about once a week, but this may be adjusted depending on the diagnosis. Treatment consists of a brief reassessment followed by utilization of office equipment to stretch and strengthen. Sport-specific training is used whenever possible. At each treatment, the patient’s home exercise program will be progressed or modified.
Physical therapy will continue until the patient’s goals are met. This will vary depending on the patient and the diagnosis. Our goal is to help the patient recover as quickly as possible while also preventing recurrent pain and injury.
What is needed to schedule an appointment?
A physical therapy prescription from any physician is necessary to schedule a physical therapy evaluation. Once this is obtained, please call our offices to schedule. We are available from 8 am to 5 pm at both our Central and Round Rock offices. Any insurance questions can be answered when scheduling.
Do parents need to be at the physical therapy appointments?
We always encourage family to be present whenever possible so that a better understanding of the diagnosis and treatment is gained. If the child is under 18, a parent must be present at the initial visit. On subsequent visits however, the patient may come alone.
