GET TO KNOW

KEVIN

The best part about my job is simple, I get to help kids get better, and that is awesome!  On a deeper level, I love the challenge of meeting each patient, and their parents, at just the right level to help calm, connect,  motivate, and teach them how they can recover after an injury.

I believe the most important person who can help you get better is you.  I will make the plan, guide you, and motivate you through rehab, but only you can put in the work to make it successful.  You have to do something to get better every day."

WHAT ARE YOU FAMOUS FOR AT CTPO?

I have been told many times that I am “unflappable”, which I think is a good thing.  Also, people are always amazed that I seem to know, or have some random connection to, lots of patients that come into the office.  I think it's just because I have lived in Austin my whole life and have been treating kids since 2002.

FAVORITE THING TO DO OUTSIDE OF WORK

I love spending time with my wife and two teenagers, playing tennis, and working outdoors. We are fortunate to have all of our extended family (parents/grandparents, brothers/sisters, and nieces and nephews) in Austin.

STREET CRED

  • Austin College - B.A. in Psychology

  • Southwest Texas State University - M.S. in Physical Therapy

  • Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Sports Physical Therapy

  • Certified in Mechanical Diagnosis and Treatment of the Spine

  • Specializing in Pediatric Orthopedics and Sports at CTPO since 2002

FAVORITE TIP FOR PARENTS

While I know how devastating it can be to have to pull a child out of current activities/sports when injured, and we do all we can to keep them active, I will always prioritize long term health over short term events and it will help your child tremendously if you keep this same perspective.

The game next week feels like the biggest game of your child’s life, but in 99% of cases, it is not.  Risking long term injury is usually not worth the short term gain and it is our job as adults to help your child understand and accept this while acknowledging how hard it is for them.

WHAT DO YOU VALUE MOST AT WORK

I value connection, honesty, and hard work.  At work this means I am searching for a way to connect with every patient; I will always tell the family what I am thinking and all the options, and I am 100% committed to working as hard as possible to pursue the best possible outcome for my patients.

FUNNIEST MOMENT

I had a 10-year-old patient that asked me once, “What if people liked pain?”  I answered, “I guess I would be out of a job”  And he says immediately, “Are you kidding me, you torture me every week! You would be twice as busy!”

MOST HEARTWARMING MOMENT

When a parent tells you after therapy how much of an impact you had on their child it is always heartwarming, but I think the most heartwarming experiences I have had are the occasions when a parent has reached out to me years later to share a college admission or scholarship essay a former patient has written about me as someone who has positively shaped their life.
