Get Creative Celebrating Mother's Day 2020

Mother’s Day is a special time to recognize the women in our lives who sacrifice so much for our families, and it’s possible their recognition is more important than ever this year. Mothers are carrying many additional responsibilities and deserve a parade in their honor! Considering the circumstances, however, we’ll have to get creative in order to pay tribute to our wonderful moms.

We might be limited to the places we can go (we miss you, brunch!) but getting out of the house is GOOD for your mom’s mental health, and it also gives us the opportunity to create new, exciting Mother’s Day memories! Here are a few of our favorite Corona-approved Mother’s Day activities for families in Austin.

Mother’s Day Scavenger Hunt

Work together to create a scavenger hunt for Mom! Create clues that take her to her favorite places around the neighborhood (away from crowds of course)! At each point, give her something special – a poem, handmade card, gift or trinket that tells her how much you care and appreciate her. End the scavenger hunt at a place where the family can spend time together.

Get Active Together

Even though Covid-19 has limited certain outdoor activities, you can still spend Mother’s Day hanging out at a spacious park. Whether you choose to walk, hike, swim, bike or stand-up-paddle as a family, Mom will appreciate the time together and the opportunity to do something healthy with those she loves. We’re lucky to have so many outdoor gems here in Central Texas!

If you'd rather stay indoors but still want to be active with Mom, you can try an online yoga class! Yoga by Adriene is led by a local yoga instructor and features hundreds of workouts. You can choose from all different skill levels, so there is definitely one for you and Mom to do together, even virtually!

Give a Spa Day

While spas and wellness centers aren't currently open, you can still give Mom a gift while supporting her favorite local spa! By buying a gift certificate that she can use once spas reopen, you'll not only be giving her a well-earned day of relaxation to look forward to, but you'll also be helping a local business potentially stay afloat.

You don’t have to send Mom to a spa to give her the gift of wellness however! For an at-home spa experience you could draw her a relaxing bath, offer a massage, light candles, make her a DIY facial mask, etc. Get creative! It is an experience she will always remember.

You could also create a book of gift certificates for her to redeem. These coupons could include things like a sleep certificate--good for one uninterrupted night of sleep (great if she has little ones), or a certificate for time to herself. She makes sure everyone else is healthy in the family, so make sure Mom knows that her health and wellness are also important to you!

Family Photo Shoot

Whether this is her first Mother’s Day or her 30th, all moms love family pictures. You could give her a gift certificate for a family photo shoot with a local photographer for the future.

Or you can do it yourself! Find a beautiful location and bring some fun props to create a day full of fun and memories together! (The iPhone portrait mode can create surprisingly professional photos!)

While this Mother's Day will undoubtedly be different than most, showing Mom she's loved and appreciated is more important than ever. With a little creativity, you can do just that.

We love our CTPO families and wish all of the hard-working mothers a wonderful Mother’s Day!
