Surgery is sometimes unavoidable, and we at CTPO are well versed at rehabilitating athletes recovering from a variety of surgeries.
Some are very common, like ACL injuries, and some are less frequent like guided growth to fix leg-length discrepancies. Each of our therapists works one-on-one with the patient to ensure continuity of care throughout the post-operative process. We stress the importance of education so the athlete and their family can make the best decisions for appropriate range of motion, weight bearing and general activity.
We also emphasize a comprehensive but efficient home exercise program to provide the athlete with daily treatment at home. We can then progress treatments in the clinic. Once the athlete is ready to progress to the next steps in the process (return to running or return to practice), our therapists will use the best and latest research combined with objective tests and measures to guide this decision in coordination with the treating surgeon, parents, and school trainers to ensure that everyone is part of the decision-making process.
Post-opperative physical therapy can help:
-
Regain range of motion
-
Restore Strength
-
Minimize scar tissue
-
Reduce pain
-
Speed up recovery
-
Maximize return to full function and sport
